SHIPYARD

VALENCIA Shipyard

The Valencia Shipyard (VSY) is a strategic infrastructure project developed under the Valencia Yacht District 2030, with full intellectual property owned by VALENCIA Marine Services, a naval engineering company specializing in maritime infrastructure and shipyard design.

This preliminary project includes specific execution conditions and engineering criteria for the future development of the shipyard, ensuring technical feasibility, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability.

Our team has deep knowledge of the existing port areas, including:

The objective of this project is to demonstrate to the Port Authority of Valencia, as landowner and concession authority, the strategic value of transforming these areas into a modern, high-performance shipyard, positioning Valencia as a leading hub in the global yachting and maritime repair industry.

The Valencia Shipyard is based on the original “Open Port” concept, a strategic vision aimed at transforming the Port of Valencia into a multifunctional maritime hub open to:

  • Business

  • Tourism

  • Sport

  • Culture

  • Maritime industry

This concept redefines the relationship between the port and the city, positioning Valencia as a leading destination for nautical activity, innovation, and international maritime services.

THE PROJECT BACKGROUND

OPEN PORT PROJECT

As defined in the original project, the Valencia Shipyard is conceived as:

👉 A strategic reconversion of Unión Naval de Levante into:

  • A mega yacht construction and repair shipyard

  • A dry dock and technical yard for yachts and recreational vessels

  • A specialized superyacht refit and maintenance facility

This transformation is not only an industrial upgrade but a complete reactivation of a historic shipyard, repositioning it as a high-value maritime asset aligned with global market trends.

The reconversion includes:

  • Restoration and modernization of existing shipyard infrastructure

  • Adaptation of facilities for large-scale superyacht operations

  • Integration of advanced repair, refit and maintenance capabilities

  • Development of technical areas for both yachts and commercial vessel

PROJECT BACKFROUD

OPEN PORT CONCEPT: INDUSTRIAL RECONVERSION STRATEGY

The original Open Port project was formally presented to the Valencia City Council IN 2018, proposing a forward-looking transformation of the port infrastructure.

However, the proposal was not pursued further under Mayor Joan Ribó, leaving a significant opportunity for future investment-driven initiatives aligned with current market demand.

OPEN PORT PROJECT

STRATEGIST CONTEXT

The Valencia Shipyard directly responds to the growing global demand for:

  • Superyacht refit and repair

  • High-value maintenance operations

  • Technical services for large vessels

  • Specialized shipyard infrastructure in the Mediterranean

The scarcity of large-capacity refit shipyards in Southern Europe reinforces the strategic importance of this development.

Today, the Valencia Shipyard concept represents a unique opportunity to recover and transform a historic shipyard into a next-generation maritime facility, integrating:

  • Industrial capacity for superyachts and megayachts

  • Technical services for commercial vessels

  • Modern shipyard infrastructure

  • Strong connection with tourism and urban development

  • High-value maritime services ecosystem

This project positions Valencia to become a key Mediterranean hub for superyacht refit, repair and maritime industry services.
